Filing a Complaint
If you
feel that you have been the victim of housing discrimination
in the area of rental housing, real estate sales, mortgage
lending, or homeowners’ insurance, you may file a complaint
by any of the following means:
In the Private sector:
The Fair Housing Council of Greater San Antonio will conduct
preliminary investigations of housing discrimination
complaints and/or help consumers file administrative housing
discrimination complaints with the United States Department
of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) or pursue civil court
remedies. The Council conducts complaint intakes by
telephone during normal business hours or in person by
appointment only.

On the Federal Level:
The United States Department of Housing and Urban
Development (HUD) will take housing discrimination
complaints by mail or telephone. You may contact HUD or the
Fair Housing Council of Greater San Antonio to obtain a HUD
Housing Discrimination Complaint form. The HUD Region VI
Office of Fair Housing & Equal Opportunity (FHEO) in Fort

Important Filing
Deadlines:
The deadline for filing a federal administrative complaint
with the United States Department of Housing and Urban
Development (HUD) is one (1) year from the date of the last
discriminatory incident.
The deadline for filing a civil lawsuit is two (2) years
from the date of the last discriminatory incident.
